KABUL (AIP): Talks between Taliban and U.S. representatives would continue in Doha, capital of Qatar on Sunday (March 03).
Reliable sources told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) that both the sides discussed various key issues including preliminary agreement in the talks.
Both the sides were holding serious talks to finalize the initial agreement for peace, the sources told AIP.
Meanwhile, a member of Taliban’s negotiation team in Qatar, Sohail Shaheen told AIP that talks were in progress on the issue today. However, a final decision had not been taken in this regard so far, he added.
Some sources told AIP that draft of peace agreement had been completed. Currently, the accord was being translated from English to Pashto and Darri (Persian) languages. However, details about the agreement are not available at the moment.
Talks between the U.S. and Taliban representatives are in progress over the past few months. Taliban are adamant on the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan. It is believed that the U.S. representatives have agreed that the foreign forces would leave Afghanistan in the next few years. However, the Taliban stress that the foreign forces should leave Afghanistan in a few months.
Two more key issues discussed in the talks were direct talks between Afghan government and Taliban and ceasefire.
However, no worthy progress has been made between the U.S. and Taliban representatives on these issues so far. Both the sides are carefully carrying forward the process of negotiations. (AIP)
