International community to regret for silence over Balkh issue, says Noor

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: The chief executive of Jamiat-e-Islami Ata Mohammad Noor has warned that the international community will regret for the silence over the political deadlock between him and the government over the political leadership of northern Balkh province.

Speaking during another gathering in Balkh province, Ata Mohammad Noor said the international community should intervene as per the commitments they have for the country in the fight against the terror and ensuring good governance and rule of law and justice.

However, Noor claims that the international community is apparently testing the patience and will of the Afghan people, warning that such an approach would have negative consequences and that the international community will regret.

This comes as a deadlock still persists between Noor and the government over the controversies surrounding his dismissal from the Balkh government.

In the meantime, the White House in a statement said “We believe that this dispute should be resolved in a way that gives Afghan citizens confidence that the appointment of a new governor strengthens security and the Government of National Unity’s ability to fulfill its obligations to them. There is no space for violence in resolving this matter – or for any party to delay a resolution by putting their own interests before those of Afghanistan.”

“This is an issue for Afghans to decide within the framework of their constitution, and in accordance with the rule of law and the principle of equality before the law,” White House said.
