KABUL: At least seven militants affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria Khurasan (ISIS-K) were killed in a US drone strike in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan. The 201st Silab Corps of the Afghan Military in a statement said the airstrike was carried out in Noor Gul district.
The statement further added that a commander of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria Khurasan (ISIS-K) identified as Mawlavi Khyber was killed along with six other militants in the airstrike.
The anti-government armed militants including ISIS-K loyalists have not commented regarding the airstrike so far.
Kunar is among the relatively volatile provinces in East of Afghanistan. Both Taliban and Islamic State of Iraq and Syria Khurasan (ISIS-K) militants are active in some of its districts and often attempt to target the government and security institutions in this province.
