Opposition stages walkout: PA witness rumpus over rejection of demand to probe corruption

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Shaukat Yousafzai said on Friday that the government admits that inflation has increased in the country but it was due to the policies of previous governments.

He was speaking on the floor of the house of KP Provincial Assembly (PA) and said that opposition political parties monotonously denounced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for corruption, while Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has ruined Sindh.

Earlier, Member of Provincial Assembly Nighat Orakzai of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) reproaching the recent government for corruption and said that Rescue 1122 Emergency Services department had not issued call letters to the majority of candidates for recruitment.

Criticizing the government MPA Khushdil Khan of Awami National Party (ANP) said that the Managing Director (MD) of Education Foundation was being victimized.

“Against the MD other officials have been privileged by the Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Elementary and Secondary Education and senior officials,” he said and added that proofs of corruption made in the foundation had been provided.

Following the objection, the opposition member Inayatullah Khan of Jamaat Islami said that a parliamentary committee should be constituted for the investigation of the matter.

The Opposition Leader Akram Khan Durrani told the house that if the MD of Education Foundation was removed from the slot then the Special Assistant and secretary should not be left in charge.

Responding to the matter Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Science and Technology Kamran Khan Bangash said that the MD could not enroll even a single student after one year passed as had been given an amount of Rs.3 billion for the enrolment of 275000 children.

He added that the MD refused to submit an audit report in board meetings for the last four years.

Later, the opposition swaddled the PA Speaker’s dice on refusal to constitute a parliamentary committee to probe into the matter.

The PA hall echoed with the chants against the government and walked out of the house.

The Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai, addressing the stance and walk out of opposition from the house, said that opposition was not serious on the matter and was only chanting slogans of corruption against the PTI government.

“Departmental inquiry was the first step to probe a matter and Board of Governors (BoG) was independent to make decisions,” he added.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Provincial Assembly (PA) Opposition Leader Akram Khan Durrani said on Friday that PTI government was an epitome of corruption adding that now it is the time to show the government what opposition could stand for.

After walk out from PA hall, the opposition held a press conference outside the house and said that the government was not willing to form a committee to probe into the matter of Education Foundation.

Akram Khan Durrani told media persons that Prime Minister Imran Khan forgets the accountability when his own party was accused of corruption.

“PTI was not taking PA sessions seriously,” he stated. He maintained that if the government stopped giving ads to any newspaper or channel then they would not let assembly to work.

Talking to media persons the Parliamentarian Leader Sardar Hussain Babak of ANP said that would the Prime Minister Imran khan answer that why was his assistant Iftekhar Durrani sitting in PA session.

He added that the PTI government was the most corrupt government.

Later, the Speaker Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani adjourned the PA session till Monday.
