Kabul striving to create coordination in regional efforts for peace

KABUL: Secretary of High Peace Council (HPC) Muhammad Umar Daudzai would pay visit to China tomorrow, the HPC announced on Tuesday.

Talking to reporters in Kabul, spokesman for HPC Syed Ihsan Tahiri said the visits of Daudzai to countries of the region were aimed at creating coordination among the initiatives of other countries for restoration of peace to Afghanistan.

Secretary of HPC and special representatives of president on regional consensus for peace Muhammad Umar Daudzai would pay visit to China tomorrow.

Daudzai would urged Chinese officials to take practical steps for creation of regional consensus for peace, he said. Having influence on Pakistan, he said China could motivate Islamabad to convince Taliban to hold talks with the Afghan government.

Terming the visits of Daudzai to China, Pakistan and other countries of the region as important, he said the visits are aimed at creating coordination among the initiatives of some countries for restoration of peace.

Some countries including Iran and U.S. were not cooperating with each other, he said. However, they had similar stance on the issue of Afghan peace. Afghanistan and High Peace Council were striving to create coordination in these efforts, he added. After China, he said Daudzai would pay visit to Iran. Terming the visit of Daudzai to Pakistan as important, Tahiri said Islamabad had clearly changed its stance. He, however, added that it was important that Pakistan truly implemented its pledges.

He went on to say that worthy improvement would be seen in the issue of direct talks between Taliban and Afghan government in the next few months.

Terming the efforts of U.S. and special representative on Afghan peace Dr. Zalmai Khalilzad of vital important for peace in Afghanistan, he hoped that the visits of U.S. and Khalilzad would not continue in the region. He stressed on direct talks between Afghanistan and Taliban as soon as possible. It would be beneficial for Afghanistan and America, he added. If these meetings and visits were increased, he said the process would get prolonged. It would create more issues. The meetings without worthy achievements were fruitless, he added. He hoped that the meetings and efforts aimed at paving way would come to an end, and that direct talks between the Afghan government and Taliban would be started soon. All the decisions would be taken in the direct peace talks between Taliban and Afghan government, he added. He hoped that the meeting between Taliban and Khalilzad in Qatar would be the last gathering of its kind. He expressed hope that the decision about Afghan peace would be handed over the people of Afghanistan in these meetings.

Two-day talks were held between the representatives of Taliban and U.S. including Khalilzad in Qatar yesterday and today. However, its outcomes have not been announced so far. The U.S. defence ministry said the U.S. would continue war against terrorists if Taliban went back from negotiations and the issue was not resolved on political pathway. (AIP)
