Khalilzad met with Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum

KABUL: The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Khalilzad met with the First Vice President of Afghanistan Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum in Kabul.

The Office of the First Vice President in a statement said the meeting was held in the residence of the First Vice President where the two sides held talks regarding peace process, Consultative Loya Jirga, and upcoming presidential elections.

The statement further added that the First Vice President emphasized on an end to the 40-year-old war through intra-Afghan talks and return of lasting peace in the country with the preservation of the achievements of the past 17 years, calling it as the main desires of the Afghan people but the nation first needs trust building in the system and national consensus regarding peace.

He also insisted that such a consensus could be built through understanding among different segments of the society including political parties, government, ethnic groups, and others including women and youths.

The statement by the Office of the First Vice President also added that the two sides emphasized on a national consensus to achieve victory in peace process, consultations regarding the agenda and objectives of the Loya Jirga (Grand Council) and transparency in elections. (Khaama Press)
