Khawaja Asif challenges his disqualification in Apex Court

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Senior leader of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Khawaja Asif challenged the Islamabad High Court verdict of his disqualification in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

Khawaja Asif filed a review petition and according to it he pleaded that he unintentionally failed to disclose his foreign work permit in his nomination papers – the basis for the Islamabad High Court (IHC) decision against him.

PML-N leader requested the Apex court to cancel the IHC decision and fix the matter for hearing at the Supreme Court.

Earlier on Tuesday, while addressing to rally at Sialkot’s Allama Iqbal Chowk, Khawaja had announced to challenge the disqualification decision against him.

Regarding the IHC decision of his disqualification, Khawaja Asif said that he is serving the people from the past 28 years and no can stop me to serve the people as I have no need to contest election to serve the people.

On April 27, Asif was disqualified by the IHC under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution for failing to disclose his employment in a UAE company and the monthly salary he was receiving.

The IHC three-member bench headed by Justice Athar Minallah had announced the verdict and ruled that Asif is not ‘honest’ and ‘truthful’ as per the Constitution.

The three bench members unanimously ruled that Asif was not qualified to contest the 2013 general election from NA-110 as he did not fulfill the conditions described under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution, read with Section 99(1)(f) of the Representation of People Act 1976.
