Lavrov expects talks on problems

KABUL (Pajhwok): Ways of addressing the challenges that Afghanistan is currently facing will come up for discussion at the Moscow format meeting later in the week.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told journalists at UN he hoped neighbours would confer on how they could help Afghanistan overcome its current difficulties.

According to TASS news agency, the Moscow group on Afghanistan will meet in Kazan on September 29 to intra-Afghan reconciliation, regional security and post-conflict reconstruction. Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are part of the group, which last met in November 2022. Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi is scheduled to represent the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) at the meeting.
