KANDAHAR: As many as 43 solder of Afghan National Army (ANA) were killed and nine other were injured in a Taliban suicide attack on the army base camp in Maiwand district in Kandahar province.
Security officials told that as many as 43 soldiers of ANA were killed and nine others were injured when two suicide attackers detonated their explosive-laden vehicles. Following the suicide attacks, the Taliban fighters also attacks the bases and gunfire was started between the Taliban fighters and security forces.
The sources said that despite the heavy attack of Taliban; however they did not managed to capture the base because the foreign forces carried out carried out an airstrike in which 10 Taliban fighters were killed.
Provincial police chief of Kandahar, Gen. Abdul Raziq, has confirmed the attack on the base but did not provide further details.
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
