LHWs protest continues in Lahore

F.P. Report

LAHORE: Lady Health Workers (LHWs) continues to protest in Lahore and warned the government of stopping the metro bus if the government not issued a notification of their service structure.

The health workers, who have been spending nights and days on Mall Road in protest, they said that the protest sit-in would be continued till their demands are met.

The LHWs sit-in disrupted traffic in Lahore as the protesters have occupied the main thoroughfare of the city.

The sit-in near Charing Cross has also polluted the area with trash all around that the protesting health workers have been clearing and burning on their own.

Although an approved service structure has not yet been issued, a statement issued by Primary and Secondary Health Department in Lahore promises the payment of salaries to the LHWs without any delays, whereas an allowance of Rs5,000 has also been mentioned for the supervisors.

On March 26, the workers started a sit-in outside the Punjab Assembly over non-payment of salaries.

Following this, the government allowed the release of arrears worth Rs1.2 billion for the lady health workers. The amount will reach the health workers within 15 days.

The health workers have been protesting since a few years for various reasons, including those pertaining to their up-gradation, regularization or non-payment of salaries, across Pakistan.

However, no proper system has been put in place for the workers to continue their duty in a smooth manner.
