Local company to print 12m textbooks in four months

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: The Ministry of Education signed a contract with a domestic company for printing and distributing 12.2 million school books over the next four months.

The contract was signed between acting education minister Dr. Mohammad Mirwais Balkhi and head of Baheer Printing Press, Sherbaz Kaminzada, in Kabul.

Speaking on the occasion, Balkhi said the books would be printed and distributed to students in the next four months.

He said the printing company was awarded the contract through an open bidding.

Kaminzada said he was committed to timely printing of the textbooks for grade first to sixth students with good quality.

Balkhi said the education ministry had received $75 million from USAID for the next five years.

The fund would be used for printing books and their distribution.

Another contract, the minister said, would be also signed in near future for printing 37 million books.

The Ministry of Education has so far printed 229 million books since 2005, but still many students attend classes without books due to their increasing number. (Pajhwok)
