Militants among more than 50 dead, wounded

KABUL:  More than 50 people including security men, anti-government gunmen and civilians were killed and wounded during separate incidents of violence in Ghazni province, officials said Saturday.

Security forces conducted ground and aerial raids on Ghazni-Paktika highway, Andar district and outskirts of Ghazni city over the past 24 hours, killing 31 anti-government gunmen and wounding 18 others, Muhammad Arif Noori, spokesman of Ghazni governor, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

He said a corporal of Afghan National Army (ANA) was also killed and a policeman wounded, adding two civilians also sustained injuries in Arzo village, outskirts of provincial capital.

Similarly, he said, two anti-government gunmen were killed by their own bomb in the Baraho area of Adnar district while a young man was shot and injured by gunmen in Refugee township area of Ghazni city.

In Gadool Sadaat area of Khwaja Omari district, the gubernatorial spokesman said, a landmine claimed the life of a young girl.

Yesterday, Taliban had reported death of nine government troops with injuries to 10 others in the Andar clashes.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid conceded that they lost only fighter and three others injured in the clashes. He, however, said airstrike killed four children and wounded four others including two women and as many children.
