KANDAHAR (Khaama Press): One child was killed and another injured when the unexploded device from past wars went off in the southern province of Afghanistan, Kandahar sources said on Saturday.
On Saturday, the provincial government spokesperson Haji Zaid said that one child was killed and another was injured due to a mine blast in the Mianshin district of Kandahar province.
The incident occurred on Friday evening when the children found the unexploded device and began playing with it. In contrast, as per the report, the device went off, killing a child on the spot and injuring another in critical condition.
Last Sunday, a similar incident occurred in the province, killing one child and injuring another.
On the other hand, another incident occurred in the eastern province of Afghanistan, Ghazni, Nahoor district, killing two children.
Unexploded devices blasted last week in the Sayedabad district of Afghanistan’s Wardak province, killing two children.
Unexploded bombs from prior conflicts have recently become more common in various parts of the country, killing and hurting men, women, and even children.
International organizations like Australia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Sweden, the United States, the United Kingdom, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) have all made contributions to support demining in the country since last November.
Afghanistan is still supposedly one of the most mine-contaminated nations in the world, killing dozens of people per month, including children, due to the detonation of unexploded bombs left over from the forty years of civil war.
