Minister Rahimy, US embassy DM discuss Doha peace talks

KABUL (Agencies): Special Representative of the President and the State Minister for Peace, Abdul Salam Rahimy, met with Karen Decker, the Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Kabul and Dante Paradiso, Counselor for Peace and Reconciliation at US Embassy and both sides discussed recent developments in the peace process and issues related to the Qatar negotiations, a statement from the ministry said.

Referring to talks between the United States and the Taliban in Doha, Karen Decker said that the Taliban have proposed a plan to reduce violence with the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and that group will share the details of their proposal, the statement added.

The State Minister for Peace, related to the Doha negotiations, said that the issue of Taliban prisoners is within the authority of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the government is taking necessary and effective measures in this regard, according to the statement.

Abdul Salam Rahimy also talked about the recent efforts of the State Ministry for Peace and said that his meetings with the politicians were fruitful. He also indicated that in many issues of the peace process most politicians had parallel views as the government does and the government will also consider their views and proposals in all the policies concerning the peace process.

Special Representative of the President said that the ministry continues its efforts to strengthen the political consensus for the peace process, the statement quoted him as saying.
