Misuse of equipment, fund dishonors US, Afghan sacrifices: Bass

KABUL (Pajhwok): In a veiled reference to National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib’s recent remarks, US Ambassador to Afghanistan John Bass took to the tweeter and said corruption and misuse of equipment, funds, and other support provided by the American people dishonors the memory of their fallen.   

“For this American, #Afghan corruption and misuse of equipment, funds, and other support provided by the American people dishonors the memory of our fallen,” he tweeted referring to US, Afghanistan relationship.

Bass said: “Americans and #Afghans have stood shoulder to shoulder to fight terror, build better future for #Afghanistan. We each have a sacred duty to honor our fallen heroes and citizens in everything we do. #AfghanUSRelations.”

The US envoy urged the need to put Afghanistan’s national interest first than personal interest when the opportunity for peace which a collective objective to be achieved.

 “So do any #Afghans who put their personal or political interests ahead of the national interest and the opportunity right now to achieve the goal for which so many have sacrificed: #peace in #Afghanistan. #AfghanUSRelations,” he tweeted.

Speaking at the Hudson Institute of the United States, Mohib said: “We will not allow anyone to turn our sacrifices and suffering into a private for-profit business.”

The NSA added that the Afghans and Americans had come a long way through great sacrifice. As a nation, Afghans were indebted to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, the NSA remarked.

The Afghan government, understanding long term partnership with its allies, would ask the US to provide a clarification on what its long-term strategy and interests were in Afghanistan.

It worth mentioning that US and Taliban entered the most crucial period of peace settlement after a 16-day fifth round of talks concluded in Doha recently.
