Nadim seeks other countries’ support to higher education

TATARSTAN, Russia (TOLOnews): The acting minister of higher education, Neda Mohammad Nadim, in his visit to Tatarstan, Russia, urged other countries to support Afghanistan’s higher education system.
Addressing an event at the Russian Federation’s International Forum of Education Ministers in the Republic of Tatarstan, Nadim emphasized the importance of having professionals and urged countries in the region to send professional staff to Afghanistan. According to him, some plans are underway to increase the capacity of university lecturers in Afghanistan.
“We expect friendly countries to support higher education in Afghanistan by sending professional cadres there or, in their own countries, by providing scholarships to train professional cadres,” Nadim said.
Nadim also raised the issue of infrastructure in the country, saying that the international community should work with the Islamic Emirate to improve educational standards.
“Lack of infrastructure is another challenge we need your support for. Lack of laboratories and facilities are challenges that need a lot of time to be resolved in Afghanistan due to the economic problems. We hope our education system will be supported in this regard,” he added.
The acting minister of higher education urged countries to have trust in the Islamic Emirate and maintain good relations with the current government.
“Paying attention to science and expertise, loyalty to the homeland, upholding Islamic values, keeping higher education away from political, ideological, police, and intelligence matters, and strengthening the country’s higher education system are crucial and fundamental,” said Fazl Hadi Wazin, a university lecturer.
The remarks by the acting higher education minister regarding the support of education come as women have been banned from attending universities since last December.
