Nepra increases power tariff by Rs 0.81 per unit

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved an increase of Rs 0.81 per unit in power tariff on account of fuel price adjustment, on Thursday.

According to details, Nepra directed the power distribution companies to include the tariff hike of Rs 0.81 per unit in the next month’s electricity bills.

The recent increase in power tariff would put an additional burden of Rs 5.02 billion on electricity consumers, the power regulator said in a statement.

The tariff hike was made on account of the fuel price adjustment in February, the Nepra said.

The hike in gas price added Rs. 3.0 billion cost to the power generation, the regulatory authority said.

In the month of February 22.77 percent electricity generated with hydel sources, while 17.46 electricity had been produced with coal-based power plants, the regulator described.

Moreover, 23.85 pct electricity was generated with gas and 16.89 pct with imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), the statement further said.

According to the regulator, reference fuel costs in February remained 3.97 rupees per unit.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has recommended an increase of Rs. 1.23 per unit of electricity, Nepra said in its announcement.

The electricity has been supplied to the power distribution companies at the rate of Rs. 5.20 per unit, the statement added.
