Nine troops killed, three injured in Farah

HERAT: Nine security personnel were killed and three more wounded as Taliban attacked a security checkpoint in Farah city.

Talban fighters attacked a security outpost in Dehak area in Farah city, leaving nine security personnel dead and three more injured, Farah provincial assembly chairman Ahmad Farid Bakhtawar told Afghan Islamic Press.

The dead included five National Directorate of Security operatives and four police personnel, he said.

Security sources in Farah confirmed the incident and casualties. However, some provincial assembly members said five security personnel were injured in the gunfight.

Some sources said 15 security personnel were killed and 10 more wounded.

Security officials in Farah have not said anything formally in this regard so far.

Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi said their fighters attacked security checkpoints in the area. Eight NDS operatives and seven police personnel were killed in the gunfight, he said. Taliban captured two outposts, he claimed.

A Taliban fighter was killed and two more sustained injuries in the clash. He said. Taliban took away nine weapons, he added.
