Pakistan is making progress in Education: Tariq Azim

Islamabad: Tariq Azim Khan, High Commissioner of Pakistan, appreciated the efforts of Developments in Literacy (DIL-Canada) to promote primary education in Pakistan.

He said that it is our moral, social and religious duty to contribute generously towards education for unprivileged segment of society in Pakistan, says a press release received here today from Ottawa, Canada.

The High Commissioner informed the participants that despite scarce resources and daunting challenges, the Government of Pakistan and the provincial governments are fully aware of the socio-economic needs of the common man.

He said that the net national primary school enrolment has improved to 65 percent and the national literacy rate has increased to 61 percent in 2016 from 35 percent in 1990.

He added that along with public sector, the private sector including NGOs, can play a significant role in improving the quality of education for students who are from low income communities.

Andrew Leslie, Member of Canadian Parliament, read the message of the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau in which he appreciated the organizers of the annual fundraiser for a noble cause.

The Prime Minister said in the message, “I would like to thank you for your support of DIL schools in Pakistan for underprivileged and disadvantaged young children. I believe that this type of generosity truly embodies what it means to be Canadian.”
