Police foil smuggling bid in Lakki Marwat

LAKKI MARWAT: Police on Monday claimed to have foiled a bid to smuggle weapons to down parts of the country and arrested three dreaded outlaws in rural areas bordering frontier tribal region.

“DPO Arif Shebaz has received credible information about the possible attempt of smuggling arms and ammunition to Punjab from Peshawar via Lakki Marwat district”, said an official. He said that a party of Shaheed Asmatullah Khan Khattak police station was tasked to foil the bid and ensures arrest of weapons’ smugglers at all costs.

“The police started searching public and goods transport vehicles on Indus Highway near Manjiwala chowk and intercepted a suspected motorcar” he maintained, adding that the cops recovered two AK-47 assault rifles and 770 bullets from the hidden cavities of car and arrested two alleged smugglers on board. The official identified the arrested men as Zahid Khan and Javedur Rehman residents of Bannu district and said that a case had been registered against them under relevant section of law. He also said that police impounded the motorcar of weapons’ smugglers.

Separately, a party of Tajori police station arrested three dreaded outlaws and two suspects during a search and strike operation in rural localities bordering frontier tribal region. “Acting on a tip off, the policemen raided the suspected hideouts of proclaimed offenders in Sagai, Bargai and Bhangi Khan Warghar areas and captured POs including Qadam Khan, Shaista Khan and Nazar Khan”, said the official, adding that the cops also held two suspects and seized weapons from the arrested outlaws during search operation.

He said that the arrested three criminals were the sign of terror and frighten in rural localities as two of them including Qadam Khan and Shaista Khan were wanted by Lakki and Bannu police in murder, attempted murder, rape, abduction and robbery cases since over last three decades.

“Nazar Jan was also a hardened criminal and he was wanted by Miryan police of Bannu district in murder, attempted murder and other cases of heinous nature”, he revealed. The official termed the arrest of wanted men a great achievement of area police saying that successful actions against proclaimed offenders and criminals’ gangs will help maintain peace in the border villages and ensure protection of people’s lives and properties.
