Polio drive kicks off in Khyber Agency

LANDI KOTAL: Political Agent (PA) Khyber Agency administered anti-polio drops to a child to formally commence the five days polio drive here in Khyber house on Thursday.

In this connection a simple gathering was initiated in Khyber House, Peshawar that was attended by PA, Khalid Mehmood beside agency surgeon Dr Ayub and other officials. The top political official feed the drops to child to start the polio campaign in Khyber.

Sharing details agency surgeon Dr Ayub said that the drive would be start on Monday, January 15 and it would be initiated in all three Tehsils of Khyber Agency. A target of 218000 children had been set to be vaccinated in the campaign and for the purpose 799 teams had been comprised to visit door to door to achieve the target, he maintained.

On a query Dr Ayub replied that there would be no exempted area and the drive would be carried out in remote areas with the assistance of the security forces.

In his public massage, the agency surgeon urged the parents not to conditional the polio vaccination campaign with their other demands and join hands with the health officials to eliminate the curse of polio from the country. He added that as per their investigation, the polio virus was present in the environment and could attack on child without vaccination therefore the parents should safe their children from crippling disease by administer polio to them. It is to be mentioned here that in the last two Khyber Agency is polio free tribal region.
