Polio vaccination drive kicks off in Herat province

HERAT CITY: The three days polio vaccination campaign in which 250,000 children in Herat City, the capital of western Herat province of Afghanistan, and Shindand district would be vaccinated began on Monday, officials said.

Monasa Hasanzada, deputy head of the Work and Social Affairs Department, on the launch of the vaccination drive asked the families to support health officials and workers in the administration of the vital drops.

She said the polio vaccination drive is administered after every three months in Herat province to ensure the eradication of polio virus.

Mohammad Asif Karbir, deputy head of the Public Health Department, said during the campaign over 250,000 children are administered with polio vaccination.

He said mobile teams had been tasked at the entrance gates of Herat City to vaccinated children under the age of five.

Of the total 250,000 children, 143,000 would be vaccinated in the Shindand district, 90,000 in Shindand district and 17,000 displaced children in camps on the outskirts of Herat. (Pajhwok)
