Precautionary steps in labs stressed to avoid radiations

KARAK: Vice Chancellor Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak (KKKUK) Professor Dr Jehan Bakht has asked the students of science subjects to adopt the proper precautionary measures while working in the laboratories to avoid radiations which were hazard for the health and underlined the need of awareness about the hazards of radiations.

He was addressing to a seminar organized by the Physics department and Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) jointly with the collaboration of Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) on the title ‘Nuclear and Radiation safety in Pakistan’ in the main hall of the University here on Tuesday. The seminar was attended by the students of Physics and Geology departments and faculty. He further said that the students should not be unmindful regarding the danger of radiations while working in the laboratories as it can damage the parts of human body.

Jehan further said that there should not be any fear among the masses regarding the exploration of Uranium in the district as the mineral were in inactive state. He resolved that the University would hold more such useful seminars on the hazard of radiations in near future. On the occasion the resource person and senior engineer of PNRA Owais Salam said that every one of us was exposing to the radiations and added that there could be positive and negative effects of it.

He asked the participants to avoid ionizing radiations and added that PNRA was responsible for ensuring the safe use of ionizing radiation. Salam said that their purpose was to create awareness and save the people of the hazard effects of the radiations and said that the people could contact the PNRA through its toll number any time in this regard.

He claimed that the people of district Karak have no hazard regarding the reserves of Uranium because these reserves extracted in inactive state and not creating the problem of cancer like diseases. He stressed that there was need of awareness among the people so that they not face undue fears.

On the occasion Head of Physics department and director ORIC Dr Abdul Hakeem Shah also addressed to the seminar and thanked the PNRA for cooperation with the University regarding the holding of an awareness seminar.
