Protest against action in Islamabad: Ring Road blocked in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The uproar in Islamabad capital has spilled out to other cities of the country as the protestors having spiritual affiliation with Tehreek-e-Labaik Ya Rasoolullah Party gathered at Jameel Chowk, blocking ring road in Peshawar for sorts of traffic.

Owing to blockade of ring road in provincial capital, all the main roads in city witnessed severed traffic jam and caused inconveniences for public transport, pedestrians and motorists.

Protestors came on roads against the crackdown carried out by federal government to disperse the protestors at Faizabad Interchange. They lashed out at law enforcement agencies for brutally using tear gas and baton charge against peaceful protestors who have gathered at Islamabad since 20 days.

Like other parts of the country, hundreds of thousands of motorists, public transporters and others have stucked in Jamil Chowk in Ring Road Peshawar because of the protest sit-in held by agitators.

Earlier, the protestors of Tehreek-e-Labaik gathered at Sher Shah Soori Road and protested against central government, s action against demonstrators and then started moving towards provincial assembly and later assembled at Jameel Chowk ring road. Angry protestors chanted slogans against PML-N led federal government and castigated the use of force against party leaders and workers.

Because of the protest sit-in Jameel Chowk, the traffic jammed occurred at University and Khyber Roads along with others after motorists and public transporters turned their ways. A large number of policemen were also deployed going alongside the protesting rally to control them and avoid any untoward situation.

Though, the religious groups mainly Barrailvi school of thought, taken to streets in protest and supported the protesting sit-in in Islamabad. The leaders who led the protest saying they would continue agitation against federal government till the end of crackdown.

One of the drivers, Rehmatullah Khan of Peshawar told that I have been stuck at Jameel Chowk since 02:00pm till night and at last came to my home after leaving my car there. A great number of vehicles were stuck there and most of commuters and drivers parked their vehicles and reached homes.

He expressed dismay over the road blockage and asked relevant authorities to take stern action against the protestors who had gathered at Jameel Chowk ring road in Peshawar.

The central government initiated operation against protestors in the light of directions issued by Islamabad high court and after all attempts failed to reach to consensus to resolve the issue via dialogue.
