Recent clashes between IS, Taliban displace hundreds of families in Khugiyani

JALALABAD: Hundreds of families left their houses in Khugiyani area because of the ongoing clashes between the Islamic State (IS) and Taliban which forced them to take shelter in other areas.

As per the local media outlet the IS fighters were on the advance and recently attacked the security check-posts in Waziro Tangi area of Khugiyani district of Nangarhar province.

Abdul Ahad, a resident of Kaga Bazaar told media persons that the IS fighters moving from Sapari area of Zawa and due to this fear, the residents of the area started leaving the area and taking shelters in the other areas.

He added that hundreds of families have migrated to Zawa, Waziro, Pera Khel and other areas where they could not find vehicles to transport them to safer place. However, some people were also trying to migrate on donkeys and horses.

Ahad added that around 1000 families had left their homes today, he said. Hundreds of more families had left their homes for safer areas over the past few days.

Police official in Khugiyani said gunfight occurred between Taliban and IS fighters in Waziro Tangi area on Thursday, but, the security forces were not involved in the clash.
Ghulam Haider Faqirzai, Chairman of displaced and migrated people in Nangarhar, said to media persons that people had left their homes in Khugiyani but only 38 families had been registered so far.

The registration of displaced people would continue tomorrow, he said. Eight teams would be sent to Khugiyani and Chamtala for necessary actions, he added.

Nangarhar governor’s spokesman Attaullah Khugiyani said that over 700 families had been displaced so far. He added that an emergency security meeting was in progress at the 201 Sailab military corps headquarters to discuss the overall situation in Khugiyani district.

Taliban members told that IS fighter were on the advance and after capturing five districts of Nangarhar, now they are on the move towards the capital and people of the area were compel to leave the area to take shelter in the safer place.
