Salang highway closed for heavy traffic

CHARIKAR: The busy Salang Highway, linking Kabul with northern parts of the country, has been blocked for heavy traffic as a result of heavy snowfall, an official said on Monday.

Snowfall that started at 2:00am could possibly continue for 24 hours, a statement from the highway maintenance department said. The strategic pass had been closed for heavy traffic, it added. Officials of the highway maintenance department urged divers to carry winter equipment and chains. They also asked for following traffic signals. The passengers could contact the department in case of any emergency on (070724007). In the winter, traveling the highway is dangerous for passengers due to heavy snow and cold weather. (Pajhwok)
