KANDAHAR: Taliban gunmen seized 14 Afghan National Army (ANA) troops after a clash in the Khas Uruzgan district of southern Uruzgan province, sources said Wednesday.
The fighting erupted after Taliban fighters swarmed Afghan security forces’ bases and outposts near the headquarters of Khas Uruzgan district, credible sources told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).
The source said the Taliban fighters captured 14 ANA troops after the attack.
Dost M. Nayab, spokesman of Uruzgan governor, confirmed the attack, saying two ANA troops and 10 Taliban were killed during the several hours long firefight.
He denied the seizer of 14 ANA troops by Taliban and termed it a propaganda.
Taliban spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi, however, claimed 35 Afghan troops were killed and 14 more were seized by Taliban after the attacks.
Bodies of the slain security men were in the control of Taliban, he claimed without disclosing if there were any casualties to Taliban fighters.
Uruzgan is a troubled province in southern Afghanistan with huge Taliban presence in most of its areas.
