UN says Daesh attacks decreased

KABUL (Ariana News): The UN Secretary General has said in a new report that attacks by Daesh-Khorasan have declined in Afghanistan, but that the group is the greatest threat in the country, and can pose a threat to the region and beyond.
According to the report, the decrease in attacks reflected both the impact of counter-terrorism efforts by the Islamic Emirate and a change in strategy directed by the group’s leader.
Several United Nations Security Council members reported that the recruitment of Afghans to Daesh was substantial, with Afghans often being used for operations.
According to the report, UNSC members also expressed concern about the proliferation of weapons in Afghanistan, the Middle East and Africa.
They said that Daesh-Khorasan sought and obtained weapons from Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan.
UNSC members continued to report that the high concentration of terrorist groups in Afghanistan undermined the security situation in the region.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) rejects the new UN report suggesting substantial recruitment of Afghans by Daesh. Its spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, says that Daesh has been suppressed in Afghanistan.
