KABUL (Ariana News): UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Asia Pacific, Kanni Wignaraja, has arrived in Afghanistan.
Discussions on livelihoods, women’s economic empowerment, climate resilience, basic services, inclusion and engagement with Afghan communities are on the agenda of Wignaraja, UNDP Afghanistan said on X.
She will also meet development partners and private sector, it added.
This comes as US special envoy for Afghan women, Rina Amiri, has met with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammad.
Amiri said on X that they discussed the importance of supporting Afghan women and human rights.
“Concurred that the extreme policies against Afghan women pose a threat to women’s rights in the region & beyond,” Amiri said. The meeting comes ahead of a UN conference on Afghanistan that will start in Doha on Sunday.
