Work on dams in Sar-e-Pul, Uruzgan to begin soon: Officials

KABUL (TOLOnews): The economic commission of the Prime Minister, led by the first deputy of the Prime Minister, Muallah Abdul Ghani Baradar,l said that the construction of two water dams in Sar-e-Pul and Urozgan provinces will begin soon.
Based on the statement of the commission, the construction by the National Development Corporation and the projects are scheduled to “commence shortly.”
“Two dams which are due to be constructed will benefit the economy with the creation of jobs and an increase of harvest for the farmers… This is a good opportunity and we can also produce power,” said Sakhi Ahmad Payman, deputy head of the Afghanistan Chamber of Industry and Mines.
During the cabinet meeting, the statement said “under the guidance of the Ministry of Water and Energy, the Economic Commission entrusted a joint committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the National Development Corporation.”
“Their task, in line with the decree of His Excellency Amir Ul Mo’mineen, is to formulate a practical strategy for the construction of Sultan Ibrahim Dam in Sar-e-Pul province and Agha Jan Dam in Chinarto district of Uruzgan, utilizing mines as a resource.”
“The mines contribute the major (income), and their revenue is being allocated, in addition to the national budget, to infrastructural projects,” said Homayoun Afghan, a spokesman for the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum. The Afghanistan Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock said that the dams will benefit the country’s agriculture products.
“The country has always relied on imports, the country can turn into an exporting country through the foundation of such dams,” said Mirwais Hajizada, the acting head of the ACAL.
