17 Daesh, Taliban insurgents killed

JALALABAD: At least 17 Taliban and Daesh militants, including two notorious commanders, have been killed in clearing operations in eastern Nangarhar and Laghman provinces, an official said on Thursday.

Lt. Col. Sherin Agha Faqiri, spokesman for the 201st Selab Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News an offensive was conducted in the Miaji Baba area of Nangarhar’s Hask Mena district late on Wednesday.

He said 11 Daesh (Islamic state) rebels, including two key-commanders, were killed. Two insurgent hideouts and a medical depot were also destroyed, the official added.

According to another report, six Taliban militants were eliminated and as many wounded during a clash with security forces in the Maidanio locality of Mehtarlam, the capital of Laghman province of Afghanistan, Faqiri said.

Security forces and civilians suffered no casualties during the operations, he concluded. Daesh and Taliban have not yet commented on the overnight incidents.
