KABUL: The Afghan security forces have foiled a massive attack by anti-government armed militants in Kandahar city by seizing 1.5 tons of explosives.
Informed military sources said “The Kandahar Police foiled a massive attack by insurgents in Kandahar City during a special operation. Intelligence reports led them to a compound which they seized over 1.5 tons of explosives that were hidden in food bags.” Kandahar Police Chief Gen. Tadin Khan also confirmed that the security forces have confiscated potent explosives in liquid and dry forms which the militants were looking to use in an attack.
The anti-government armed militants including Taliban have not commented regarding the confiscation of the explosives so far.
This comes as the security situation in southern Kandahar province had relatively improved during the recent years but the anti-government armed elements have been attempting to destabilize the province.(Khaama Press)
