CJP rejects Nawaz’s appeal to club three corruption references

ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan rejected a petition filed by the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s appeal seeking to club all corruption references against him.

On October 13, Nawaz Shahrif filed a petition on in the Supreme Court on October 13 against multiple corruption references filed against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on the directives of Supreme Court in the verdict of Panama Papers case on July 28.

The petition filed by Nawaz Sharif’s counsel Khawaja Harris under Article 184(3) and he pleaded the top apex court to direct the accountability court  to combine all the three references as all the same in nature.

Registrar of Supreme Court rejected the petition with a reason to approach the relevant forum for the case.

Later, Nawaz appealed against the registrar’s decision which was heard in-camera on Thursday (today) by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, who dismissed the appeal.

After the hearing outside the court, Khawaja Harris told media outlet that the decision is unexpected and adding that such appeals is usually heard in an open court.
