JALALABAD: Afghan forces destroyed a narcotics processing factory in Khogyani district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said Tuesday.
Lt. Col. Sherin Aqa Faqiri, the spokesman for 201 Selab Military Corps in the east, told Pajhwok Afghan News the drugs factory was destroyed during a joint operation of Afghan forces.
The factory was discovered in Pirkhel area and all materials, including hashish, opium, acid and others were destroyed in the operation.
However, no one linked to the factory could be arrested, said Faqiri, who claimed the facility belonged to militants because it was located far away from residential areas.
The army spokesman said a joint operation codenamed “Operation Number-4-9” was underway in Khogyani district of Nangarhar.
He said four Daesh militants were killed and five others wounded during the operation in the past 24 hours.
Afghan forces launched the operation in Khogyani after clashes broke out between rival militant factions Daesh and Taliban, affecting civilians.
Around 12,000 families were displaced from the areas as a result of the militants’ infighting.
