Horse trading in senate election: Losing candidate demands CJ to take suo moto action

F.P. Report

TIMERGARA: Jamiat Ulema Islam Fazl provincial chief and former senator Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan on Monday said that parliament was the most powerful and important pillar of the state and its supremacy should be maintained.

Talking to a group of local journalists at his residence at Laram Darra on Monday Maulana Gul Naseeb, who lost the recent senate election, said that any standing committee of the senate had the powers to call judges, generals and bureaucrats for explanation on important issues. He said the widespread reports about horse trading during the senate election had degraded the institution of senate.

The JUI-F leader said the Chief Justice of Pakistan should take suo moto action on the alleged bargaining in senate election. About his defeat, the Maulana said that an investigation committee comprised of FUI-F executive council’s members would probe into the matter. He said the defeat of a party chief was being considered the defeat of the whole party. He said if the JUI-F candidate Talha Mehmood had to lose it would have been an individual defeat. He said the investigation committee would call party MPAs including opposition leader in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly Maulana Lutf ur Rehman and senator-elect Talha Mehmood.
