F.P. Report

KARACHI: At least two people died and 13 others sustained severe burns when a fire broke out and engulfed several floors of a 12-storey building situated at Hassan Square in Gulshan-i-Iqbal area of Karachi.

Sources familiar with the incident reported that rescue teams moved to the spot to evacuate the injured people to nearby hospitals.

The fire started on one of the floors of the building and spread across other floors, forcing people inside to scramble on to rooftop to escape the flames and smoke.

By the time, four fire tenders from the nearby fire station and two extinguishers rushed to the spot to extinguish the blaze.

According to initial reports, the deceased jumped from the building for saving their lives, but succumbed to their wounds at a hospital.
