Taliban publicly lash boy, girl

Monitoring Desk

KUNDUZ: Gunmen, believed to be Taliban fighters, publically lashed a boy and a girl on charges of having phone friendship. The Taliban gathered the villagers to the village mosque just before noon Wednesday and gave the boy and girl 25 lashes each, a resident of Qochi area, outskirts of Kunduz city, told Afghan media.

He, however, said the Taliban did not disclose the crime of the boy and girl. Safiullah Amiri, deputy chairman of Kunduz provincial council, confirmed the incident, saying the Taliban tried and punished the girl and boy on charges of phone friendship.

The Taliban mostly award punishment to people under the Shariah laws in their controlled areas.
