A man dies in Karachi cosmetic factory fire

KARACHI: A man died after fire broke out in store of a cosmetic factory here off Main Shahra-e-Faisal thoroughfare of the city on Wednesday.

The fire broke out after a blast in chemical store of the factory, which is situated in residential area of the posh PCHEC neighborhood of the seaside metropolis, police informed.

“A blast occurred in Godown of the cosmetic factory followed by blaze here at 9am” SHO Tipu Sultan told, adding that wall of the adjacent school also got damaged.

A dead body recovered from the derbies, which turned out to be helper Salman Sarwar, police said. Sarwar, 30 years old, had died due to burns, according to hospital sources.

A man lost his life as a fire broke out following a blast at a cosmetic factory’s chemical storage facility off Shahrah-e-Faisal, police said on Wednesday.

While the bomb disposal squad dispatched to the site claims that the explosion was not the result of any terrorist activity, however, a factory’s manager told media that he fears explosives were planted in the storage facility.

A caller to Emergency-15 had initially termed the situation as a building collapse. However, upon investigation, Sub-Inspector Police Shahzada Saleem confirmed that the explosion had occurred at a chemical storage facility resulting in the collapse of a nearby school, police said.

Eight to nine workers are employed at the warehouse, where cosmetics were being made and stored, according to sources. Officials of the bomb disposal squad and Counter-Terrorism Department are on site for investigating the cause of the blast and subsequent fire.

Earlier, on September 1, high flames at the shoe factory in Karachi’s SITE area were doused after 17 hours, firefighting officials said. Fire had broken out and engulfed the building.
