A powerful earthquake struck near Tokyo

TOKYO (TASS): A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 hit the Japanese capital on Thursday. This was reported by the country’s national meteorological office.

The epicenter of the tremors was located on the border of Tokyo and Chiba prefectures. The focus was located at a depth of 80 km. There is no threat of a tsunami after a strong earthquake in the Japanese capital, but aftershocks may occur.

At least two people were injured, NHK reported . In some buildings, elevators have stopped due to an emergency system.

Due to the earthquake, the movement of the subway, as well as the high-speed Shinkansen trains, has been completely stopped. Narita Airport is operating normally. Another airport, Haneda, has closed its runways for security checks. Departures at this time are no longer scheduled. An emergency information gathering headquarters has been set up at the office of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
