Afghan forces conduct raids against Taliban in Ghazni

KABUL: The Afghan Special Forces and Air Forces have conducted multiple raids against Taliban militants in South-eastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan leaving at least killing 8 Taliban fighters, the military sources said.

According to informed military sources, in a raid to deny Taliban offensive operations against Ghazni City, the Afghan special forces detained 2 Taliban fighters and destroyed 3 Taliban vehicles, explosives and Taliban propaganda. The sources further added that the Afghan special forces conducted a presence patrol near Shalez, Arzo and Rozikala Villages, killing 3 Taliban fighters and wounding 4.

An airstrike was also carried out in Ghazni district during the same period leaving 1 Taliban fighter dead, the sources said, adding that three similar strikes were carried out in Now Bahar district in which 4 Taliban fighters were killed and another one was wounded. The anti-government armed militants including Taliban have not commented regarding the operations so far.

Meanwhile, a Taliban commander and a fighter of the group were killed in separate Improvised Explosive Device explosions which went off prematurely in northern Baghlan and central Logar provinces. The MoI in a statement said a local Taliban commander who was planting an improvised explosive device in Dand-e-Shahabuddin area of Baghlan province was killed when the explosives went off prematurely.

The statement further added that the incident took place at around 8pm local time on Wednesday. The ministry in a separate statement said a Taliban fighter was killed as he was transferring an improvised explosive device in Kharwar district of Logar province.

The anti-government armed militants including Taliban have not commented regarding the incidents so far.

Taliban militants frequently use improvised explosive devices as the weapons of their choice to target the security forces and government personnel but in majority of such attacks ordinary civilians are targeted.(Khaama Press)
