Afghan, foreign troops kill five civilians in Nangarhar

KABUL (Afghanistan Times): At least five civilians were killed in separate military operations jointly launched by Afghan security forces and their foreign supporters in the eastern province of Nangarhar.

The operations were launched overnight in the districts of Shirzad and Haska Mina, in which five civilians were killed.

Former President, Hamid Karzai expressed regrets over the killing of civilians, demanding for immediate stop of arbitrary operations.

Karzai said in a statement that war parties need to join peace efforts and work for a lasting peace in their country.

The Sailab 201 military corps stationed in the country’s east, says four armed Taliban fighters were killed during the operations.

Hundreds of civilians were killed and injured during night raids and airstrikes launched by American forces across the country in the past. The arbitrary operations caused Karzai to refuse signing the bilateral security agreement with Washington, which was quickly signed by his successor, President Ghani.
