ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court in Lahore has extended the interim bail of former federal minister Asad Umar in six cases till January 9 but rejected his interim bail in another case related to an attack on Askari Tower.
The court also extended interim bails of former PTI chairman Imran Khan’s two sisters in different terrorism cases till January 9.
The court summoned the lawyers of the accused for final arguments on their bail applications on January 9. ATC Judge Muhammad Arshad Javed on Saturday heard the interim bail applications of Asad Umar and the sisters of former chairman PTI – Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan. Lawyer Rana Mudassar Umar appeared on behalf of the accused. At the outset of the hearing, an application was filed in the court seeking Asad’s exemption from the court appearance. The court reserved its judgement on his exemption plea.
However, the court extended Asad Umar’s interim bail in six other cases till January 9. But it rejected his interim bail in the Askari Tower attack case. The former PTI leader has submitted his interim bails in cases including the Jinnah House attack case, the Askari Tower attack case, the torching of the Muslim League office in Model Town, and the burning of a canister at Kalma Chowk. In another case, Imran Khan’s sisters Aleema and Uzma Khan appeared in court.
The investigation officer told the court that the investigation of their cases had not been completed yet and sought more time. The women are accused of inciting riots and arson. Aleema and Uzma have submitted their interim bail applications in cases related to an attack on the Jinnah House, the burning of a container at Kalma Chowk, and the torching of the PML-N office in Model Town. Lawyer Rana Mudassar Umar took a position in the court that these are merely political cases in which there is no evidence against the petitioner, requesting the court to order the prosecution to submit the records on a future date. The court summoned the lawyers for final arguments on January 9.
ATC extends bail of PTI leaders in May 9 riots: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday extended the bail plea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Zain Hussain Qureshi, and two sisters of PTI chief in a case related to the May 09 riots.
According to the details, ATC court Judge Arshad Javed in Lahore extended the bail plea of the sisters of the PTI chairman Alima Khan, Uzma Khan, and PTI leader Zain Qureshi till January 09 in the May 09 riots case. Last month, an Anti-terrorism court indicted the charges against PTI leaders Yasmeen Rashid and Ijaz Chaudhry in the May 09 police van arson case.
The court also indicted another PTI leader Rubeena Jameel in the case. ATC admin judge Abhar Gul Khan heard the case that was registered at Sarwar Road police station of Lahore. All three accused were produced in the court for indictment. They pleaded not guilty and decided to contest charges against them.
The court summoned prosecution witnesses for recording their statements in the case and adjourned hearing of the case until December 16. PTI workers staged violent protests across the country on May 09 this year after arrest of the party’s chairman and former prime minister in Islamabad High Court in Toshakhana case.
