WASHINGTON DC: Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and People’s Republic of China (PRC) Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi exchanged views on the matters of Hong Kong, Tibet and Xinjiang on Saturday.
The U.S State Department press release stated that during the conversation Secretary Blinken stressed the United States will continue to stand up for human rights and democratic values, including in Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong, and pressed China to join the international community in condemning the military coup in Burma.
Furthermore Secretary reaffirmed that the United States will work together with its allies and partners in defense of our shared values and interests to hold the PRC accountable for its efforts to threaten stability in the Indo-Pacific, including across the Taiwan Strait, and its undermining of the rules-based international system.
On the other side, Chinese Communist Party’s Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee and member of Political Bureau Yang Jiechi stressed that, Beijing won’t tolerate interference in its domestic affairs and will take measures to safeguard its sovereignty.
Highlighting the bilateral agreement the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Yang Jie-chi urged the US to abide by the agreements reached by the two countries.
Jiechi also underscored that all issues related to Hong Kong, the Xinjiang autonomous region and Tibet were China’s domestic affairs and no country had the right to interfere in them. He also remarked that Beijing will continue to firmly safeguard the country’s sovereignty and security, as well as its development interests.
