WASHINGTON DC (RIA Novosti): US President Joe Biden on Tuesday welcomed the agreement reached between the US authorities and carriers AT&T and Verizon to delay by two weeks the 5G cellular networks scheduled for January 5, due to potential threats to the safety of aircraft.
“My administration is committed to the rapid de-ployment of 5G networks, minimizing disruptions to air transport and continuing to maintain the world’s safest airspace. Yesterday’s agreement is an important step in the right direction, and we are grateful to all parties for their cooperation and integrity.” Biden said in a statement released by the White House.
As the head of state recalled, the agreement reached guarantees that no significant disruptions will occur during aviation flights over the next two weeks. “It will also allow us to significantly reduce disruption to air operations when AT&T and Verizon roll out 5G on January 19,” Biden said.
The US authorities fear that the use of 5G frequencies by telecom operators could affect flight safety, as they are also used by some flight instruments. In this regard, the US Department of Transportation has previously asked the largest enterprises in the industry to postpone the introduction of these networks.
