PESHAWAR: Bread ovens (tandoors) across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained shut on Tuesday as the strike called by the Peshawar Naanbai Association enters its second day.
With a very limited number of bread ovens open, residents across the province are facing immense difficulties, as the traditional flatbread is selling for as much Rs60 per piece.
The association has threatened to continue the strike until flour prices are adjusted. They argue that it was impossible to sell flatbread on the government-fixed prices owing to the ongoing wheat crisis in the country.
The strike came after talks failed between the provincial government and the association. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai rejected the demand of the naanbais association for increasing the price of flatbread and said their government will not issue any such notification.
