CDA, land for Dollar campaign

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is planning to launch a new state-of-the-art residential scheme only for overseas Pakistanis at Mauza Kuri in the Federal Capital. The new scheme, sprawled across 14,000 kanal of land along Kuri road, will be reserved exclusively for expatriates, and the plots would be marketed and sold to overseas Pakistanis in US dollars, contributing to the country’s foreign exchange reserves. As said, the CDA was currently in the process of bidding and appointing a consultant who would steer the whole process including preparation of a feasibility study, designing, development along with overseeing the execution of the multimillion dollar project which will include all essential modern amenities into this lucrative scheme.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) which was primarily constituted by the federal government for the development, organization and maintenance of the federal capital about six decades ago, has now assumed the role of money-generating and dollars-producing entity after full accomplishment of its primary objective. Interestingly, all other relevant state institutions including the state bank, Pakistan Steel Mills, POF Wah, Heavy Industry Taxila and PAC Kamra and other state corporations failed to export their products to generate dearly needed foreign money. The private sector also faces a slowdown due to no availability of electricity and costly production.

The Chairman CDA and his team took prudent initiative to take advantage of the situation and sell government land in this guaise as such favorable conditions never exist again.

Ironically, the bureaucracy is well versed with the tact of exploiting weakness of the public and grabbing money during hard times, natural disasters and calamities. Although the country is embattled with the worst economic conditions, those dire situations do not allow the authorities sitting in government entities like CDA, WAPDA, NADRA etc to start bartering national assets to fill their pockets. The CDA has abandoned the majority areas of the federal territory and owes a tiny land of a few posh sectors while the rest of the city portrays scenes of Tribal areas and Southern Punjab. If CDA authorities feel pain for the country and the public they must uphold their primary responsibilities instead of getting into unlawful, dubious and spongy businesses that aim at personal motives instead of service to the nation.
