China: Creation of submarines by non-nuclear states a violation

NEW YORK (TASS): China regards the construction of nuclear submarines by non-nuclear states as a violation of the non-proliferation regime. This was stated on Monday by the Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the UN Zhang Jun, speaking at a meeting of the Security Council.
“China opposes a unilateral approach to the nuclear non-proliferation regime or the use of double standards. <…> Assistance to non-nuclear countries in the construction of nuclear submarines will not only lead to an intensification of the arms race, but also harm the nuclear non-proliferation regime, as well as international, regional security and stability, “he said.
According to the diplomat, such actions also contradict “the spirit of the nuclear non-proliferation regime.” “China scrupulously observes the moratorium on nuclear tests and has never renounced its support for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty at the political level,” said the permanent representative of the PRC.
