Climate and water issues: Ministry, OCHA commit to enhanced cooperation

KABUL (BNA): A coordination meeting was held between the Ministry of Energy and Water and Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock.

The meeting was attended by Mujib Rahman Omar Akhundzada, Deputy Minister of Energy and Water, officials from OCHA, and representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock.

The participants discussed coordinating humanitarian aid and joint efforts in water resource management, especially concerning climate change adaptation.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Akhundzada stated that temporary and short-term programs are insufficient to address the challenges posed by climate change. He stressed the need for fundamental and comprehensive work to tackle issues such as droughts, sudden floods, and other threats facing the people of Afghanistan.

The meeting concluded with participants assuring each other of their commitment to accelerating joint cooperation and emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts.
