Death toll climbs to 209 as coronavirus infects 9749 people in Pakistan

LAHORE: Pakistan on Wednesday has reported 209 deaths from novel coronavirus while the total number of cases has surged to 9749.

According to details, 4328 patients have been tested positive for the epidemic in Punjab, 3052 in Sindh, 1345 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 495 in Balochistan, 283 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 194 in Islamabad and 51 in Azad Kashmir.

So far, 2156 patients have recovered in the country. 

Prime Minister Imran Khan was advised to undergo coronavirus Test after he met scial worker and head of Edhi Foundation Faisal Edhi last week, who has been tested positive for coronavirus.

Faisal Edhi, the son of late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi and chairman of the Edhi Foundation, met Khan last week where he presented him a cheque of Rs10 million for Corona Relief Fund.

President Dr Arif Alvi expressed the optimism that Pakistani nation would exhibit discipline to maintain lockdown and social distancing in order to fight the coronavirus and to eventually emerge as a great nation.

Speaking to media persons during day-long visit to Muzaffarabad, he said “Pakistani nation is ready to become a great nation by observing self-discipline in their life and at mosques and adopt maximum preventive measures to check spread of the COVID-19.”

The President said the Seerat of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) was the real and profound example of discipline, adding people must ensure strict discipline by following the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet. Similarly, he said the life and vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah also laid emphasis on the unity, faith and discipline.

Appreciating the step, the prime minister said the Pakistani nation had always faced the difficult times with strong determination and firm resolve and had always supported the weaker segments through generous donations.

According to a statement issued by the PM office, the prime minister observed that the portal would enable the donors and philanthropists to reach to the deserving people, besides ensuring establishment of a just, transparent and merit based distribution system for ration.
