Dharna violence case: ATC acquits Imran Khan in SSP torture case

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) was acquitted on Friday in SSP Asmatullah Junejo case by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad.

Earlier on 10 April, ATC had reserved the decision in the case that relates to attacking the Parliament and PTV office during the 2014 sit-in in Islamabad, as well as torturing then-SSP operations and violating the loudspeakers act.

The ATC judge Shahrukh Arjumand announced the verdict in favor of Imran Khan and acquitted him in the case.

Imran Khan after the hearing said that it is highly undemocratic act to file terrorism case against us in a democratic case while we were only protesting in a peaceful way.

During the sit-ins in 2014 when PTI and PAT workers marched towards Parliament and PM House and clashed with policemen, SSP Junejo was beaten up on Constitution Avenue on his first day on the job as SSP Operations of ICT Police. The protesters also ransacked the PTV office.

Later, four cases were registered against Khan, PAT chief Tahirul Qadri and several others for their alleged involvement in the attacks.
